Organized by the Hospitality and Tourism Research Centre of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and STR, the inaugural IMPACT2020 Conference takes place at Hotel ICON, Hong Kong, in both offline and online mode on 30 October 2020. The event’s theme is “crisis management and recovery strategies.”

Organized by the Hospitality and Tourism Research Centre of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and STR, the inaugural IMPACT2020 Conference will be held at Hotel ICON, Hong Kong, in both offline and online mode on 30 October 2020. The Conference is sponsored by the Pacific Asia Travel Association.

The global hospitality and tourism industry has been facing considerable challenges due to geopolitical and socio-economic uncertainties and global health crises, such as the China-US trade war, Brexit, social unrest around the world and the COVID-19 pandemic. These challenges have damaged the confidence of international tourists travelling to and from the crisis-affected regions and countries. The impact of these ongoing crises on the hospitality and tourism industry has attracted considerable attention from practitioners, policy makers and academics.

Taking the theme of “Crisis Management and Recovery Strategies”, IMPACT2020 is organized in a timely manner to bring industry executives, government officials and academics together to discuss crisis management and recovery strategies to counter the negative impacts of geopolitical and socio-economic crises and uncertainties on world tourism. The conference is committed to bridging the gap between academia and industry practice and thereby exerting a positive impact on hospitality and tourism communities.

IMPACT2020 will feature a number of renowned industry and academic speakers with considerable experience of crisis management practice and research. Whereas many other conferences target practitioners and academics separately, this unique conference will bring industry executives and academics together to discuss and debate crisis management from different perspectives to develop the best recovery strategies for crisis-hit sectors of the hospitality and tourism industry. Delegates will share their views on the latest industry trends and prospects and propose solutions to the problems currently faced by the industry.

IMPACT2020 is being run entirely by SHTM undergraduate students from the Special Events Class. Under the guidance of SHTM faculty members, students have formed an organizing committee to manage all aspects of the conference, putting together an enriching program for international delegates in a unique setup.
