Trump Hotels confirms data breach: Trump Hotel Collection officials have confirmed that seven of the company’s properties suffered a data breach where customer credit and debit card numbers might have been stolen. The breach apparently happened because of “unauthorized malware access” to front-desk payment card systems between May 2014 and June 2015. Hotel restaurants and gift shops were also hacked.
The affected hotels were the Trump SoHo New York, Trump International New York, Trump National Doral in Miami, Trump International Chicago, Trump International Waikiki in Hawaii, Trump International Hotel & Tower Las Vegas and Trump International Toronto.
The company has created its own site to detail how the hack happened and what it will do to address it.
Wyndham touts growth in India: Wyndham Worldwide has announced a series of hotel and timeshare exchange deals aimed at growing its presence in the Indian subcontinent. Wyndham Hotel Group is adding 10 hotel properties.
The new deals include two conversions under the Howard Johnson and Ramada Plaza brands and expansion of the Ramada and Days Inn brands. The company has 25 hotels in the region with 28 more (3,300 rooms) in the pipeline.
Asset managers an asset during budget season: This is the time of year where hoteliers need to grapple with their budgets. Hotel News Now contributor Ed Watkins talks to some asset managers in the trenches about what savvy hoteliers can do to make the season a little less painful.
One of the most important things, according to HotelAve CEO Michelle Russo, is to not wait too long to get into the process. Ideally, discussions begin in August.
“If you wait until November 1st to nail down your budgets, properties are already pregnant with corporate negotiated rates for next year, and it’s too late to do anything about it,” she said, noting similar dynamics with group strategy.
Hotel Equities creates full-service and resorts division: Atlanta-based Hotel Equities has announced the creations of a new full-service & resorts division, which will be led by 29-year industry veteran Dominic Buompastore, the new VP of operations, full service & resorts.
The new division covers roughly 10% of the company’s 100-hotel portfolio. The division is expected to double over the next 12 to 16 months.
Prior to joining Hotel Equities, Buompastore worked at a series of Hyatt properties.
Canopy by Hilton adds eight properties: Eight new properties are now operating under the flag of Hilton’s newest brand. Hilton Worldwide Holdings announced the eight new Canopy by Hilton properties Tuesday along with plans for 20 more.
The new locations are: Canopy West Palm Beach; Canopy Denver Downtown; Canopy Washington, D.C., Southwest Waterfront; Canopy New Orleans; Canopy Dallas Uptown; Canopy Baltimore Harbor Point; Canopy Minneapolis Mill District; and Canopy Chicago The Loops.
