David Berg, CEO of Carlson Hospitality Group, spoke with Hotel News Now at the Hotel Data Conference about the company’s pending ownership change and the future of its global growth.
NASHVILLE, Tennessee—Much attention within the hotel industry is focused on mergers and acquisitions, something Carlson Hospitality Group is currently experiencing first hand.
Carlson CEO David Berg spoke to HNN at the Hotel Data Conference, giving the latest update on Beijing-based HNA Tourism Group’s acquisition of the hotel company, as well as other factors affecting the global hotel industry.
Berg said the HNA deal is going through the regulatory process and is expected to close this calendar year. Despite pending ownership changes, he said the company is laser-focused on running and growing its hotel business.
“Around the world we’re quite excited, and obviously here in the U.S. we continue to grow,” he said, citing recent notable deals and openings in India and Latin America, as well as a revival of the Country Inn & Suites brand in the U.S.
Berg also shared his thoughts on how travel patterns are changing around the world, along with the role industry disruptors play in the lodging industry.
