A look at Instagram’s algorithm
Instagram is often cited as the most important social media channel for inspiring travel among consumers, and TechCrunch recently took a deep dive into how the platform’s algorithm decides what shows up in users’ feeds.

“Instagram relies on machine learning based on your past behavior to create a unique feed for everyone,” the news outlet writes. “Even if you follow the exact same accounts as someone else, you’ll get a personalized feed based on how you interact with those accounts.”

According to information provided by Facebook (the owner of Instagram), the top determining factors for placement on the platform are: an analysis of a user’s past interests, how recently posts were shared and how close a user is to the person who shared it.

GDPR now a reality
After months of talk and handwringing over the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation, the new rules officially went into effect on 25 May. Hotel News Now’s Robert McCune compiled HNN’s coverage on the topic in an effort to highlight what hoteliers should know about the new rules.

A look at a high tech hotel in HITEC City
Forbes recently profiled the newly opened ITC Kohenur in the HITEC City section of Hyderabad, India, noting the property portends “the future of the luxury hotel industry.”

“The hotel has many impressive features including guestrooms with vitamin C-infused showers,” the outlet reports.* “It also utilizes 100% LED lighting, has a solar strategy integrated into its design, features vertical gardens, has a living roof and boasts a water recycling program.”
